This came to today. I'm 99% sure it's a totally stupid idea but still...

Why not put water turbines on the downpipe of gutters from houses? Not the most reliable form of electricity I know but if it's cheap enough to do...?

Also, same for storm drains on a larger scale?

Have you ever measured the amount of water that comes off a a roof? And also how often a usable amount comes off. Not a goer at all in the UK

No I haven't. I didn't think it would work but I'd thought I'd through the idea out there and see if anyone could improve on it or utilise it in a different way. My opinion is that we're not going to solve our problems using the current 'green' thinking and we need to be looking at claiming any reasonable amount of cost-effective energy we can lay our hands on. Obviously this isn't it though Sad

There is energy there but it's cheap and easy to raise the height of the water butts to store it, then use the water where you need it without having to use a pump.
