'The UK’s Energy Technologies Institute (ETI) announced today a £25 million investment in a new wind turbine drivetrain test rig at Narec in Blyth, Northumberland.
The state-of-the art, open access test rig will be able to handle complete drivetrains and nacelles up to 15 MW, before they are tried in challenging offshore conditions.
Converteam and MTS Systems Corporation are designing, developing and commissioning the test rig, which should be available for testing from Jun 2013.
“Today’s announcement of this state-of-the-art test facility shows our determination to support the renewable energy sector that is helping to reshape the British economy for the future,” commented Business Secretary Vince Cable in a statement'.
