| Quote: | The Independent - 03/05/12
Donald Trump has written to Scotland's First Minister Alex Salmond, warning him Scotland can "never" become independent under his leadership because wind farms will destroy the country's tourism industry.

The bare-faced arrogance and self-interest of this man continues to amaze me!
Yes, tourism is important to Scotland during BAU but, as depletion kicks in, greater energy security and independence will be a far bigger prize. (How would the tourists get here, anyway?) |

Hah! Gotcha!!
| Quote: | Consent for a wind farm off Aberdeen which is opposed by Donald Trump has been granted by the Scottish government, angering the US tycoon.
The £230m development consists of 11 wind turbines. |

It's more than just a wind farm. It is essentially an offshore laboratory in which different design concepts can be tried and validated. It is an important part of Scotland's aim to become a centre of excellence for renewable energy technology, and has attracted 40 million Euros in EU funding. Trump doesn't stand a chance in opposing this one IMO.

I bet he won't be able to get his own way either as he is up against something bigger than he thinks he is.
I watched the documentary a little while ago regards the manner in which he pushed his golf club planning application, and stuff the natives. He came across as a bully was well as appearing stupid
Has anyone looked on the website? He is only asking £195 per person per weekday round, plus extras such as caddie, trolley hire etc (You are not allowed to use your own)
I'll stick to my own club, and my local links (Minehead) only charge £18 for a round weekdays.

Alex | God, I hope his golf course is a flop. He is the very epitome of all that I hate about the kind of economic system we live in. |

Go on, do tell more.
Would that be a result of some Skirmish that took place a few hundred years ago?
If so Mel Gibson has a lot to answer for! _________________ If it wasn't for pick-pockets & frisking at airports, I'd have no sex life at all .................Rodney Dangerfield. |

If he doesn't go ahead with the balance of the resort, I think it's quite likely it will flop. The thing is, there are already plenty of iconic golf courses in this neck of the woods. Most of them are well-established, are "destination" places to play, and have excellent connections with local accommodation and hospitality providers.
If you're a fanatical golfer visiting the area, where are you going to choose to play; St Andrews? Carnoustie? Castle Stewart? Or some unknown, unproven plastic affair put together by some corporate mogul who doesn't understand golf in a Scottish context? On the other hand, if he goes ahead with the hotel, villas, etc, it will probably be a success by capturing the "package crowd" from the US, despite the presence of the EOWDC.
What irritates me far more than the way he has ridden roughshod over the sensibilities of local people and environmental concerns (although this is bad enough), is the way he feels he can dictate Scotland's energy policy! _________________ Follow our blog: www.newlifeinnorthernscotland.blogspot.co.uk |
