Here is an application by someone called Rathlin Energy to drill and possibly (= if they find it viable, certainly) frack for oil and/or gas. It's in 2 halves, the second one deals exclusively with the issue of Radioactivity(!).
https://consult.environment-agency.gov.uk/portal/npsapp/rathlinenergyuk/rathlin_energy_uk_limited_1

One does not have to wade* through reams of docs in order to reply, merely to point out that whatever extra hydrocarbons are dug-up and burned, the ones we know about already are plenty enough to fry the biosphere.

And above all (of course!), it won't look nice.

Deadline 4th March.

You (rightly) imply that people feel they have to become experts on fracking in order to mount serious opposition to it. I've lately been saying, whatever the merits and demerits of fracking or any other extreme energy, it's largely a deliberate distraction.

The guys who want to make money (it's nothing to do with energy security) can spend the time and effort constructing spin - which ordinary folks think they have to deconstruct. So we have all these new, well-meaning 'experts' wearing themselves silly, leaving little energy for the larger picture, which is what really matters.

To be fair, one also doesn't have to be an expert to ask the simple question "Where will the (contaminated, probably radioactive) water go when you've finished using it?"

I think that TPTB think Scotland will go independent and they want a revenue replacement for North Sea oil.

Also true - but again, ordinary people will be 'reassured' that regulations will be in place, all safety standards met, best practice, in accordance with EU regs etc etc blah blah blah, in an attempt to obfuscate the big picture.

Questions like the above are at one particular (low) level, if you like. Whereas the higher level - that of climate change - gets sidelined.
