An interesting article on the BBC site today ("Biofuels: Green energy or grim reaper?") bringing everyone down to earth as the media ups the "biofuels to solve the oil crisis" bandwagon.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/science/nature/5369284.stm

One thing I didn't know:
Quote:
The grain required to fill the petrol tank of a Range Rover with ethanol is sufficient to feed one person per year. Assuming the petrol tank is refilled every two weeks, the amount of grain required would feed a hungry African village for a year

"Hey, who cares if people starve as long as we can drive our cars for a week."

Quote:
Little wonder that many are calling biofuels "deforestation diesel"

I found this about Jatropha quite interesting.

I especially liked the appeal, near the end of the page that includes:
Quote:
Therefore, whether you are a person in a politically high place, a corporate decision maker or an eminently unknown person it is incumbent upon you to personally make this project your own.

I like to consider myself an eminently unknown person. Smile

This site might be on interest - using cold pressed plant oils - claim a 25th of the carbon footprint of bioethanol.....
