Peak Oil ? is the party over?
Tim Fairs, oil geologist
Monday 4 December 2006 at 6:30pm in Cafe Muse - Manchester Museum.
There is considerable debate these days, both within and outside the oil industry, on when global oil production will reach its peak, whether it has already peaked, or even will ever peak.
This event is known colloquially as Peak Oil, and it is that point in time at which one half of the world's conventional oil reserves have been extracted from the earth, after which oil production begins its slow inexorable decline.
In this talk, Tim Fairs will examine the scientific evidence for Peak Oil, look at the different opinions and attempt to present a balanced case for and against global oil depletion, and finally look at what alternative energy resources are available, and whether these will be enough to replace oil and gas in the future.
Tim Fairs is an oil geologist with over 26 years experience in the international oil industry. He is currently working as an independent oil consultant, but is also involved with various environmental groups on the issues of oil depletion and the broader consequences of oil dependency on our lives.
