I thought Mark's recent speech made some interesting points:

Expect most people will find something they agree with along other points they strongly disagree with.

Read this (and the links) first.

I thought this series was pretty good:

http://www.spinwatch.org/index.php/issues/science/item/5461-the-repentant-environmentalist-part-2
http://www.spinwatch.org/index.php/issues/science/item/5490-the-repentant-environmentalist-part-3

And also this review of The God Species in The Land:

It is easy to understand where Lynas' new grand narrative come from. It's clear that the 'conventional' narrative of environmentalism has failed. But what does that leave us with? If you aren't willing to entertain the collapse narrative, Mark's position is the logical alternative. Personally I prefer the Dark Mountain world view, but that isn't anywhere near conventionally positive enough to be popular.

I'm seeking the path to the far side of the Dark Mountain.

Why Mark Lynas Changed His Mind

Quote:
Lynas tells Lawson he now works on the GM issue "to the exclusion of almost everything else. That's unsurprising, as the publicity generated by his Oxford speech won him the patronage of Bill Gates, the world's richest man, whose Foundation enjoys notable synergies with Monsanto, a company in which it invests heavily. The Gates Foundation has even set up a faux academic position for Lynas at Cornell, as well as providing him with other notable platforms for promoting the technology, not least in the developing world.

Lynas uses such opportunities to promote GM with some seriously bad science.

Lynas. Pronounced 'Lying Eyes'. In an interview with...Dominic Lawson, of all people. And we've been accused of groupthink!
