Pyroclassic Fires, the New Zealand maker of very expensive wood boiler stoves also sell something they call a 'Cooktop Oven'. It's basically just a metal box with a temperature gauge and a trivet: link

Presumably this box can sit on any stove with a 36x36cm top, or indeed a similar box could be made for any stove... but do they work as ovens?? Anyone used something similar?

I’m sure we could cobble a box together that would allow cooking on a stove top for a tad less than €225 Shocked

A large cast iron pot like a Dutch oven for example.

I have seen them in shops in Australia also but not heard anything about them good or bad.

Could be a good idea if your existing woodstove does not have an oven. in my opinion however if your are doing a new build as i think the OP is then spend on a Rayburn/Aga with an oven and get the best. Not sure how temperature control can be achieved reliably too.

Australian and NZ wood fires are rubbish compared to the UK built stuff.

NZ has a reputation for expensive stuff. Small market and monopoly producers etc etc.

I think I know the metal bashers who make these:

They are in Tipton. I don't know if they sell for less than Harrods prices.

They are for gas hobs only although you could probably use one on a camp fire as well.
