I am about to set up a small panel on a post to charge an electric fencer.
I assume I aim it South, if possible.
Is there an optimum tilt angle too? |

South is best as you point out.
The opimum tilt angle depends on what you wish to achieve, there are three possibilities
1) a fixed angle to maximise anuall production, this would be typicly about 30 degrees from the horizontal in most of the UK.
2) A fixed angle to maximise winter production, when supplies are most limited, this would be near vertical to make to the most of low winter sun, perhaps 20 degrees from the vertical. (a south facing wall is often better than roof mounting for winter use)
3) an angle altered according to the season, near vertical in winter and near horizontal in summer.
Option 2 may be the best for an electric fence. _________________ "Installers and owners of emergency diesels must assume that they will have to run for a week or more" |
