I want to get a supply of anti-biotics for when TSHTF. My family have been prone to ear and throat infections for which anti-biotics have been prescribed. If I had been borne before the invention of anti-botics, I think I would have died from the many ear infections I suffered as a child.
I believe they come in powder form for making up into solution? Does anybody know where one can get these? What shelf life do they have?
Any more info? _________________ "I want to help build a more responsible society here in Britain, one where we don't just ask, 'Where are my entitlements?' but, 'What are my responsibilities?' Where we ask, 'What can I give?' " David Cameron, May 2010 |

You have a shelf life problem which is variable according to the type of antibiotic. Anything from one week to several years.
Also, some just loose potency, others actually become toxic.
Sounds like a suitable case for a book on natural remedies.

Not if my Granny had had anything to do with it. She would have been pouring hot linseed mush into your ears and then wrapping a huge bandage round your head to hold it in place. . |

I've got an ear infection right now, I get them too from time to time. I'm trying to see if it will clear itself up, but I've had it a week. If it is worse tomorrow am going to the docs.
Just trying to say, I share your worries on this snow hope. |

Having just been rescued from the horror of an interal post-op infection by anti-biotics I can sympathise. Unfortunately on top of the problems mentioned above you also need to insure that you get the right anti-biotics. For my infection I needed two types, each of these have specific properties and deal with different aspects of the infection.
The lesson I will take is to avoid even minor surgery, and from previous experience look after my teeth. |

I don't really get infections but my ears are prone to waxing up from time to time. As long as I can get hold of some sort of veg oil (preferably warmed up) I should be okay.
What I'm considering at the moment is the situation regarding spectacles. At the moment I have four pairs (one's a set of sunglasses). If I don't wear them, everything from about 1metre+ away from me is a blur ie my eyes are bloody useless.

Amoxicillin is a good all round antibiotic used to clear chest/throat/ear infections... 500mg is good.
You can normally get this over the counter from pharmacists in Spain for ?5 if you explain why you want it... ie say that you are on holiday and you were taking them for an ear infection and you have now lost the course that you were given in the uk. Has worked for me, I know have 3 courses. _________________ "All truth passes through three stages: First, it is ridiculed; Second it is violently opposed; and Third, it is accepted as self-evident."

Well pretty much, without going to the docs too. |
