Something like that, alot of long lasting tinned foods. Dare say I could survive for about 3 months with the current food stocks, not living like a king but surviving and that could be the name of the game.

Have noticed more and more that peak oil is sneaking into the main stream in different clothes whether under climate change or energy effeciency or sustainable development I definately see it there under the surface.

I'm currently preparing a bulk order (six months' worth) of most-used foodstuffs that we don't produce ourselves. Pasta, dried beans, coffee beans, olive oil. No particular driver apart from I can so why not?

How's life in Dungannon?

There was a news item on the Beeb last night about potential food shortages this year because of the Russian drought and fires, the Pakistani and Aussie floods and problems in China. Increasing fuel prices were mentioned as well. They didn't mention increasing population though.

They seemed a bit surprised about it all. They must go round with their eyes shut as these things have been brewing up for years. It's certainly been a hot topic here since the site started as far as i can tell.

Dungannon is... lacking a suitable word to describe it. Where I live is quiet and sleep but with having to travel to Belfast every day for work it is a cost I could be doing without.

Disappoints me that our political leadership are sleepwalking into this crisis without making any real strides to make us energy or food independent.

Those Ark things in Southern England produce a lot of food dont they? Why could we have one here?

Job wise if it isnt Belfast it isnt worth while.

This house will probably not be my final stop, one more leap to make but when I do that I want land to stick up some pollytunnels and the odd outhouse to work/make stuff.

I don't get it. What is the point in being able to survive for 3 months on tinned food if you have no means of getting any more food at the end of those 3 months? I mean...what's the point? Confused

It does give you three months during which you can formulate a plan as well as grow a few items to eat, rather than expending your time and energy looking for food.

I mean, you wouldn't sit around consuming food for three months then start looking for more, not if you're farsighted enough to stockpile in the first place. Laughing

Problem would be though if the shtf and knocking on doors begging for food becomes knocking down doors and looking for food...

But you don't advertise your stockpile, do you?

And surely you'd make the pretence of being in the same boat as everyone else?

Only my sisters know about it and of course if the government end up giving rice out from a lorry somewhere I'll be in queue too.

The questions may start when I dont get thinner and everybody else does...

What all are you getting in your bulk order and what sort of price is it coming in at?

Really should prep some bug out bags
