Fair points, JohnB.

But we're told we're experiencing low inflation, negative in some cases! Just goes to show.

Personally, we're getting hammered price-wise, everyone seems to be expecting to get discounts and account customers are taking longer than ever to pay.

Maybe we should put our prices up!

John, I think it depends to a degree on the fixed overheads.

I know a restaurant in a tourist area who reduced its takeaway prices considerably and increased its eat-in prices slightly. They are doing a roaring trade and have never been busier. It has proved to be a spectacular success.....

Their takeaway prices are now very competitive with fast-food outlets and their sit-in custom was always pretty busy anyway. If the food is good, then a small increase in the sit-in prices doesn't seem to have much affect. I mean if you are prepared to pay three or four times the price for food and drink to be served to you, than you can buy and consume at home, then small increases seem insignificant.

We used to sit in, but mostly go for the carry-out option now. Smile
