I think it's time to start planning our next Real Ale meet up. As the last one was in Preston where would people like the rematch to be? Manchester, Bury.... or somewhere else entirely?
I'm free the w/e of 24 Sept or 1 Oct.....? _________________ Set The Fire To The Third Bar

Hello ES
Weekend of the 24th Sept is better for me - unlikely I can make the following one. Obviously Manchester is convenient in my case, but I'm happy to show up anywhere there's a viable public transport service.
PS I went to a gig a few weeks ago in Preston, and turned up at the Mad Ferret thinking "this place looks kinda familiar....."
Regards Chris |

My friend Ed organises the music there. Who did you go to see? _________________ Set The Fire To The Third Bar

Hi ES
I went to see Jeffrey Lewis and the Junkyard http://www.thejeffreylewissite.com/ play a Sunday afternoon show - and it was excellent.
I go to pretty much all of Jeff's shows in the NW - there are usually 1 or 2 a year. Lots of vids on YouTube, including one from the Mad Ferret gig where (very unusully for them) they play a cover version - Tom Petty's "Runnin' Down a Dream"

Weekend of 24th is sounding good to me!
Venue . . . not sure. The thing about Manchester and Preston is there is a good (late) train service . . . we might be making things difficult for ourselves going to the more outlying towns, unless it's somewhere like Liverpool I suppose.
Will have a sphinx. _________________ Andy Hunt

Hi All
Daytime Saturday 24th is OK for me - might even turn up early, and check out the Magrittes at the Tate Modern before sampling the local "bevvies" (as I think they're known there)
Aaaarrrgggghhh!!!! I'm acidentally slipping into poshness again!
Er.... and bear in mind that Liverpool are playing Wolves at home that day, so the pubs may be full of frightful working-class people.....
....who've been priced out of the market for actually attending socer games.
Cheers, Chris |

Hmm, I wonder if Liverpool is a good idea after all then. I dunno, I suppose if we stick to real ale and try to avoid lager pubs we might be alright. _________________ Andy Hunt

Just picked up on the thread....
24th September good for me at the mo.
Used to live in Liverpool, so know some of the pubs.
If nothing else, The Philharmonic has some of the grandest 'bogs' around:

Manchester or Preston would be good too.
ES - not had chance to investigate Blackburn too much as yet, but the general feeling seems to be that the centre is fairly dead at night. The locals now seem to head to either Preston or Clitheroe. |

Someone once said to me that they thought Clitheroe was the plural of clitoris.
As you were. _________________ Andy Hunt

Sorry, have been off the radar for a couple of weeks while I moved house (which was horrific - if you're tempted to do it, don't).
The Philharmonic is lovely, it's 'grand' throughout. We could start there then wander down to the Baltic Fleet (which is EXCELLENT) taking in a couple of other pubs along the way.
Andy - I'll never think of Clitheroe the same again. _________________ Set The Fire To The Third Bar

Starting to feel excited now. _________________ Set The Fire To The Third Bar
