We don't know since we haven't got any fusion power yet. I suspect it might be old age setting in and you meant "fission " power instead. At the time the reports didn't differentiate between the two, and just referred to "nuclear power".

You're right I think. I thought it was related to the start of fusion research but it has probabily been used to justify nuclear power generally.

Glad you picked up the aircraft issue above as well. I think NASA is becoming a bigger bastion of fantasy than they were in the 70s as they tried to justify themselves post Apollo. Hodson 2K9 gives me hope that they won't find it so easy this time Confused

Its not just NASA though CERN, US navy, Toyota, Mitsubishi, even Shell are all doing serious research into this and thats just the ones who are open about it, i bet there are many more big corporations working on this in secret. Plus there are many independent scientists working on this as well.

Over in Sienna Italy, The International Society for Condensed Matter Nuclear Science confrence is taking place (was taking place april 10-14). Anyway Italian biophysicist Francesco Piantelli of the University of Siena, and researcher in the field of Nickel-Hydrogen reactions presented some of his research data to the conference, his slides can be found here:

https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B6id5Hf-xMWOYXVjekJCN1ZkQk0/edit?pli=1

The data presented at the conference shows a reaction in which a significant amount of excess energy is produced from his reaction (over 50W gain).

The concluding slide in the presentation sums up the results of Piantelli’s research:

“*We are very close to the auto-sustenance (less than 20W introduced and 71W produced = 91 W)(t=260 C)=> We want to evaluate the possibility to increase the produced power to 100W

“**We have seen that the energy produced can be obtained between 200 degrees C and 400 degrees C.=> We want to evaluate the best temperature interval inside that region.

“***We want to evaluate the effect of a magnetic field on the absorption and on the primer of the energy emission.

“****We have indication that the phenomenon takes place at the surface of the sample; we have seen in previous experiments a transmutation effect.=>We want to evaluate the residue by means of SEM-EDAX and SIMS technique”

Piantelli’s research shows some very interesting and significant results. We have yet another serious and credible researcher describing how excess energy can be produced by means of a nickel-hydrogen reaction. Over the coming weeks and months more presentations from the conference will be made available to the public, i will post any significant findings.

Hot fusion - billions of research money, yet to break even!

LENR - very little research money, yet ample experiments all producing excess energy some in the 10s of watts (and improving by the month)!

If LENR had half the research money hot fusion has, i reckon commercialisation would either of occured already or be very close to occuring.

www.e-catworld.com/2012/04/international-conference-in-torino-italy-to-focus-on-lenr/

Quote:
The Politecnico di Torino in Torino, Italy will be hosting an International
Conference on May 4, 2012 entitled The
Atom Unexplored . The stated purpose of
the conference is to discuss “the hidden
potential of the cutting-edge research on
nuclear technology.” The following text
is from the conference announcement:

Recently, international scenario has seen a
renewed interest for research on in‐
novative technologies for nuclear energy
generation. This improved attention led to
the conception of the International
Conference “The Atom Unexplored”,
aiming for three main goals: identify the
most promising alternatives to fossil fuel
and current nuclear reactors; inform the
scientific, institutional and industrial
community about the current
advancements and future initiatives in the
field of innovative nuclear technologies for
energy production; foster the discussion
about the relevant workshop topics among
the interested stakeholders.
Two issues are addressed in two different
sessions: Low Energy Nuclear Reactions,
and High Energy Nuclear Reactions. The
former is focused on the new scientific
results currently achieved in the novel field
of Piezo ‐, Lattice Assisted Nuclear
Reactions and of Cold Fusion in general,
while the latter concerns the deployment
and the critical elements of the promising
technologies already developed, such as
nuclear fusion and the new generation
reactors.
SNIP

This will be the 4th international workshop/confrence on LENR that has happened with in the last couple of months (the other 3 were a NASA one, CERN one and the one i posted about above).

Its clear that the field of LENR is starting to be taken seriously. One of the speakers attending is Dr. Peter Hagelstein of MIT. The big organisatons (including NASA, CERN, TOYOTA, MITSUBISHI, SIEMENS, US NAVY off the top of my head) interested in LENR is growing by the month.

As the author states this confrence will be about practical application of new nuclear technology, rather than just on the theoretical side of the subject.

It seems to me that LENR could definately go mainstream (and by that i mean accepted in mainstream science) over the next couple of years.

Going to be very interesting to follow this story over the next couple of years.

Just like to add i follow the LENR story not the Rossi (e-cat) story. Treat the 2 seperately as they are different stories, Rossi is probably a hoax, LENR is not.

Ok so a couple of days ago an interesting report was published on e-cat world this is what was reported:

Quote:
A new and very interesting report is coming again out of Italy. The Repubblica Roma web site is reporting about a project carried out by teachers and students at the Leopoldo Pirelli industrial high school in Rome in which students have built cold fusion cells which according to one of the instructors involved have achieved excess heat levels of 400 per cent. A slide show of the devices can be seen here.

Following this report, one of the instructors involved with the project, Ugo Abundo, emailed Daniele Passerini of the 22passi blog and provided more information. Abundo said that the cells used ‘free nanopowders’ in the cathode which they have patented. Abundo says that in a few days video and technical details will be made available (presumably online). It also appears that Passerini will be working to help publicize the project.

http://www.e-catworld.com/2012/04/cold-fusion-in-italian-high-school/

I thought i would see how this story developed over the next days before posting it here anyway the next day a copy of the email sent from Engineer Ugo Abundo to Daniele Passerini was posted here was the email said:

Quote:
At last Doctor Passerini!

I’m very pleased to know you. We’ve been able to meet up (on the web).

I’ve been trying through the J. Von Neuman foundation (research body in Artificial Intelligence) to contact your web site, which I’ve been reading for a long time with much interest, appreciating the stylemark. It was my intention to invite your sympathizers to our conference through your blog, for a direct exchange of ideas. We can always remedy this.

In a few days we will publish on the internet the video recording of the whole conference, from the introduction, to the students’ interventions, to the starting of the reactor, to the one and a half hour of confrontation with free questions and collegial discussion. We will also add a bulk of technical material regarding the experiments made and future plans.

I’ll drop you a hint that it it an electrolytic reactor (Mizuno type, Iorio), but with the fundamental difference that free nanopowders are used, not treated or fixed on supports, that we’ve been able to confine and turn on in a totally innovative fluidized-bed reactor.

We, in alternative to whom makes a kind of communication too much vulnerable claiming yelds that are usually denied by detractors, during the conference, while stating to have reached yelds that are in the range of 400% or higher (according to our interpretation of measurements), have not given a live demonstration of such measurements (we have only turned on the reactor to communicate visually what we were talking about), but with a fundamental news.

The news is in the fact that we have patented the powder cathod in the name of the school so that from now on nobody interested in personal gain will be able to patent it.

The Public Institution, on the other side, will be able to supply the reactor to allow experimentations, or just the licence of use at the derisory cost of the illustrative material for the self construction and the best protocol of use.

We are a group of (teachers) engineers with sectorial skills in radioprotection, chemical, physics, mathematics, engineering and we have integrated our strenghts in this accomplishment (with the precious help of our students that have acquired important competencies on the field, even if limited to the educational aspects).

The patent is functional to the most open circulation, both of the construction plans and of the tests and interpretations, in order to be able to share the informations without fearing that the reader patented himself what we have communicated and subsequently precluded us and others to carry on in promising directions.

We have then challenged the detractors to make the measurements by themselves, with us checking where they make mistakes, making us available to even lend our device but making the tests in our attendance (we would unmask even the sleight of hand of a detractor).

Currently we are taking a breather from the big effort made in the organization of the event, and checking the evolution of the post event chain, in terms of diffusion of news, possibly correct (but unfortunately we have found unintentional mistakes of transmission).

In a short we will be able to cooperate with you supplying the said open informations, in order to facilitate their diffusion.

We are gathering around us suitable professionalities to build the critic mass in order to unhinge the wall of technological, scientific and of method difficulties that have not permitted yet to explain the nature of the involved phenomenon, and to aim at an experimentations campaign duly designed with the target of the understanding of the phenomenon (we know that perhaps we are aiming too high, but at least we will pick up some success close to the ground in the worst case, while aiming low usually you can pick up underground targets…)

Ing. Ugo Abundo

I suggest visiting the School site www.leopoldopirelli.it, where the homepage starts to show a list, already not up to date, of links that talk about the event, that are growing up in number so quickly that the boys of the internal editorial office can’t keep up with them.

For immediate release both this letter and our appreciation for your work and for whom makes vivacious your blog, please accept our best regards

Ing. Ugo Abundo

P.S. Engineer Abundo adds:

it will be possible for the people that read you, to get immediately, free of charge, the construction plans to self build the reactor and make it work, in order to open a campaign of free experimentations with the aim to achieve and hopefully surpass soon, the output achieved by us.

The making of it is not difficult and not expensive, neither for the instruments, so that tenths of independent experimenters can be involved.

Sorry for being short but we are running.

Best regards

So we have a italian high school claiming to have a cold fusion cell which has achieved excess heat levels of 400 per cent. Furthermore they are going to open source the anthanor cell for FREE so anyone in the world can replicate or even surpass there experiments. Today a English translation of how to build the Pirelli Athanor Cell was posted online, which i will post up as a seperate post.

This is the first group working on LENR that has published information of this kind. Not only that but the patents for the Athanor cell is the name of the high school. They are not asking for funding of any kind there providing this information in the hope that people out there will be able to better there gains of 400%. Either way this is a very interesting development and im sure more schools and universities will take up this challenge. Not only that but IMO the genie is out of the bottle so to speak, there will be no stopping LENR. Mainstream science and media will have no choice but to take LENR seriously once thousands of people and schools etc have all seen that LENR is real. Im hoping someone on this board will have the know how to replicate this reactor (which the school says is pretty inexpensive).

http://www.e-catworld.com/2012/04/english-translation-of-build-instructions-for-pirelli-athanor-cell/

This is the link for the instructions on how to replicate the Athanor cell. As i say im hoping someone on here will have the knowledge to try this out. If your still skeptical of LENR (why would a school lie? there asking for no money or nothing, skeptics should really start taking this seriously) this is your chance to see with your own eyes. Have an open mind and try it out what do you have to loose?

Here is some links to the schools website and the slides of the Athanor cell.

Also thought id post this up. Its a 60 minitue report of LENR titled "more than just junk science" which aired on CBS in 2009. Its a bit out dated as since 2009 there have been alot of breakthroughs and announcements to do with LENR. Still its mainstream media so thought some people would like to watch it.

http://www.e-catworld.com/2012/04/earth-day-viewing-3-years-later-repost-of-60-minutes-on-cold-fusion/

the videos at the bottom.

Also for people interested is this report on a company called brillouin, who also claim to have a working reactor (they have had 2 successful validations). To be fair out of all of the people/companies claiming to have a working reactor (there are now 5) these do seem the most credible. Well that was untill the Italian high school blew them all out the water with there open sourced Athanor cell. If any of the compaines do indeed have working reactors then the news of The Athanor cell being open sourced will surely have them worrying.

hahaha Laughing Hopefully there will be plenty of more news to post over the next months.

like i said though i came across this a few days ago but i was waiting for a english translation to be made available hence why ive posted all at once.

IMO this is definitely the most significant news to come from the LENR story to date. For the first time we have a credible group claiming to have a working reactor (NASA CERN etc do not claim have a working reactor) who are not looking to make money from it and who are open sourcing the instructions on how to build the reactor, so the skeptics can see for themselves. As i say hopefully a skeptic on this board will take up the challenge, there must be one person on here who can do this.

I never said it was!

If it was a competition i certainly wouldn't want to be apart of it anyway, it would be a rather sad and pointless competition!
