Excellent interactive graphic here on the NSA's activities.

Quote:
Much of the data the NSA compiles from all these efforts will be stored in its million-square-foot data center near Bluffdale, Utah. It can hold an estimated 12 exabytes of data. An exabyte is the equivalent of 1 billion gigabytes.

XKeyscore allows analysts to search with no prior authorisation through vast databases containing emails, online chats, and the browsing histories of millions of individuals.

Snowden said on Tuesday that he and other analysts were able to use the tool to select an individuals metadata and content without judicial approval or prior review.

In practical terms, this meant the agency tracked citizens not involved in any nefarious activities, he stressed. The NSA operated a de facto policy of guilt by association, he added

The Guardian and The Washington Post share a Pulitzer prize

Quote:
"And we share this honour, not only with our colleagues at the Washington Post, but also with Edward Snowden, who risked so much in the cause of the public service which has today been acknowledged by the award of this prestigious prize."

NSA collecting millions of faces from web pages:
http://mobile.nytimes.com/2014/06/01/us/nsa-collecting-millions-of-faces-from-web-images.html?referrer=

Was going to be smug and post I haven't had a photograph taken since school. But remembered my driving licence of course. Doh.

Complete panopticon or something. I think compared to my parent's day, people today are less inclined to take risks. The future, people will be too fearful to do anything but conform.

But...but...if you've done nothing wrong, you've nothing to be afraid of. Have you?

Last web site I expected to break secrets even the Guardian refused to publish

http://www.theregister.co.uk/2014/06/03/revealed_beyond_top_secret_british_intelligence_middleeast_internet_spy_base/

Tin foil hattery

http://www.breitbart.com/Breitbart-London/2014/06/04/Are-details-of-Britain-s-above-top-secret-spying-being-leaked-by-the-Government

I'm surprised this hasn't spread further

Edit

In the last hour it is beginning to spread across google, via wired, various geek sites, Russian propaganda sites like RT and various german and other language sites I can't identify.

No main stream english language sites (except wired) yet

Here is a typical piece of government propaganda just in time for the latest invasion of privacy laws being introduced today

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/europe/france/10956636/Islamist-plot-to-blow-up-Eiffel-Tower-Louvre-and-nuclear-power-plant-foiled-say-French-police.html

This 'plot' was between a Parisian Butcher and Islamist in Algeria and consisted of the Butcher sending encrypted emails saying

'I am ready to do whatever you tell me, send your instructions'

Islamist
'Dunno, maybe you could blow up a jet plane, or a nuclear plant, or the Eiffel Tower'
Butcher
'Great! I await your detailed instructions'

Err... that's it.

The French division of NSA must be quaking in their boots.

Ok so we now have to live in fear of butchers. I expect the government will insist we all become vegetarians.

D'you think that's why there's been all the fuss about Halal butchers?
