His work, or work of a similar nature, will never be over and will always be needed.

From Der Spiegel, so may reflect reality:

The NSA's TAO hacking unit is considered to be the intelligence agency's top secret weapon. It maintains its own covert network, infiltrates computers around the world and even intercepts shipping deliveries to plant back doors in electronics ordered by those it is targeting.

Annie Machon, a former MI5 operative who blew the whistle on the UKs dubious spying activities, has started a new fund to support other whistleblowers such as former NSA contractor Edward Snowden.

Called the "Courage Fund to Protect Journalistic Sources," Machon said the foundation will strive to ensure that whistleblowers, such as Snowden, currently in Russia where he has acquired temporary asylum, and Chelsea Manning, sentenced to 35 years in prison after releasing the largest-ever cache of secret US documents receive the protection they need.

It's a story that's all over cyberspace but mostly points back to the Russia Today article. The BBC is, quelle surprise, silent; the Torygraph, however, at least offeres her an ad hominem attack: http://blogs.telegraph.co.uk/news/brendanoneill2/100252627/whats-the-difference-between-a-whistleblower-and-a-mad-conspiracy-theorist/

Snowden becomes a board director.

Quote:
Ellsberg and Snowden have similar histories. Ellsberg was a U.S. military analyst during the Vietnam War who leaked information to The New York Times in 1971 about the United States secretly enlarging the war. Conspiracy and espionage charges were dropped after illegal efforts by Richard Nixon's White House to discredit Ellsberg were discovered.

More USA invasions.

Deployments in 134 countries, however, turn out not to be expansive enough for SOCOM. In November 2013, the command announced that it was seeking to identify industry partners who could, under SOCOMs Trans Regional Web Initiative, potentially develop new websites tailored to foreign audiences.

These would join an existing global network of 10 propaganda websites, run by various combatant commands and made to look like legitimate news outlets, including CentralAsiaOnline.com, Sabahi which targets the Horn of Africa; an effort aimed at the Middle East known as Al-Shorfa.com; and another targeting Latin America called Infosurhoy.com.

If the court allows the NSA to continue its metadata collection, we will reside in what can only be characterized as a police state.

So says Marjorie Cohn in an article for The Jurist.

Quote:
Edward Snowden, who worked for the National Security Agency (NSA), revealed a secret order of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court (FISC), that requires Verizon to produce on an "ongoing daily basis ... all call detail records or 'telephony metadata' created by Verizon for communications (i) between the United States and abroad; or (ii) wholly within the United States, including local telephone calls."

Obama (amongst others) has devalued it.

This looks like the start of a great bit of journalism. Keep an eye on it.
