An alarming but thought-provoking documentary about life inside the Islamic State:

https://news.vice.com/video/the-islamic-state-part-1

It's supposedly in five parts, but I could only find the first four. The documentary is shot in Raqqa, Syria, which is the declared capital of the Caliphate. This has been in ISIS control for some time and, as you'll see, the Sharia-based society has become well-established there.

ETA: Mods, would it be an idea to merge the "Iraq Watch" and "Iraq Falling Apart" threads? I wasn't sure where to post this. Wink

Another 200 US military 'advisors' ie. special forces, being deployed, to assist the Kurds.

AFAIK the forum software does not allow the merging of threads, only splitting.

Cheers Shortfall. I think they've been releasing one part per day, or thereabouts.

The Americans must now at least be on a par with the UK and France when it comes to the endless fecking over of the middle east.

I sometimes wonder if it might not be better for all those nations who have tried (and failed) to make the Middle East a better place to leave well alone and give those nations that have not been involved a go.

Trouble is, I'm not sure which those nations might be. Whose hands are still clean?

Maliki's gone

Not much of a surprise given that virtually nobody had any faith in him

Iraqi tanks advance on Kirkuk to grab the oil fields after Kurds vote for independence. Looks like another civil war, expect the price of oil to rise sharply. I can't see this happening without trump's say so. Turkey will probably use this as cover for a land grab in the Kurdish areas in the north of Syria. It could get very messy again.
