With North Korea having fired missiles recently which landed in Japanese territorial waters, and the pro-US president having been ousted in South Korea, and with unrealistic leaders in N.Korea and the US, what happens next?

Park Geun-hey is out

I think Trump has worked out that it is a bit more complicated than he thought. Hence I don't think he will initiate anything in terms of military action although the North Koreans are stupid enough to do something.

I think the message gets sent if it has not already been sent that if North Korea fires just one armed missal at South Korea , Japan or any USA target north Korea becomes a radioactive glass parking lot in a matter if minutes.
The fat boy might not understand that but his generals will.

I have heard it suggested that if North Korea use a nuclear weapon against South Korea, or indeed against anyone else, that North Korea will be "obliterated" by the USA and allies. BUT this is to be done WITHOUT the use of nuclear weapons.
The USA and allies wish to retain the moral high ground by NOT responding with nukes of their own.
A truly massive response with only conventional weapons has been suggested. "doing a Dresden" to North Korea is the currently popular phrase.

I'm sure the US will try to knock down any North Korean missile before it strikes and if they succeed at that their response could be quite muted realizing that the population of North Korea had no choice in the matter, but if they fail at that and there is a smoking hole where Seoul or Tokyo or Honolulu used to be then the time for playing well with others will be past and an example of Total destruction not mutual will happen not just to wipe out the North Korean leadership but to send a very pointed message to Iran and all the other nuclear wannabes.

Whatever the response to a North Korean action is that is not "initiation". My point was that I don't think Trump will start it although his approach to the south china sea is different.

IF North Korea wanted to use a nuclear bomb against another country - which I don't think they do - it won't be deliver via rocket! The rockets are just for show, prestige.

A more reliable delivery mechanism would be smuggled in a shipping container, US ports and certainly South Korea are more vulnerable to attack that way.

Yes. They have both the bomb and the rockets as recent tests have shown, it is however doubtful if they made a bomb small and light enough for delivery by rocket.
Also, doubts exist as to the reliability of the rockets, any failure would waste one of their nukes, of which they presumably have only a few.

A bomb in a shipping container is of course a possibility but what difference would that make? They would have to take credit for the bomb going off to get any advantage from setting it off and once identified as the perpetrator would have a life expectancy measured in minutes.
Nuclear war is a very tough game and the main problem is informing the participants of the rules.

According to reports on the BBC news site, "USA patience with North Korea has run out" and military action is a possibility.

I think Trump will make a symbolic show of force by shooting down the next North Korean missile fired into international waters.

Joking aside this is starting to look increasingly serious, see link for details.
