A list of Trump's executive orders so far in 2017

The focus is on removing public protections, empowering militia and corporate interests.

He is a boor. He is a buffoon. He is also narcissistic and childish in his demeanour. Unsurprisingly, it is extremely easy to point out these overt failings.

Indeed, it is these failings as a human being that is one of the primary reasons he has been so easily corralled and controlled by the generals and Yank deep state.

But, for all of those failings, the most important of which which is his infantile belief that the return to a "great" America could ever be born on the back of the same kind of seemingly perpetual growth on a finite planet of the last two centuries, I don't think, in his own mangled way, Trump was being dishonest about Syria and all the rest of the USA's military adventurism prior to his election

Instead, all we are now seeing is Trump being forced to belatedly get behind the same kind of American global aggression that Clinton would have endorsed with gusto from the start.

In other words, Trump has failed on the one thing it might have been possible for him to succeed in. Namely, foreign policy. To that extent, there is nothing special about Trump in that all he is doing now is continuing with business as usual.

Armageddon is back on schedule - that's all.

Yus. They are forced, pre-election, to say anything that will get them elected, true or untrue. After election, they are merely stooges for the real power. And this is simply stating the obvious, for any election. We accept this without a whimper.

Which surely suggests that presidents have limited real power in guiding the American state!

The best you can hope for is that a president's instincts are more cautious in reigning in the more impulsive and aggressive tendencies within factions of the Deep State.

That was why President Obama was clearly the better choice compared to either John "WW3" McCain in 2008 or to a lesser extent Mitt Romney in 2012.

In the 2016 election, Hilary Clinton, whose track record has been a total warmonger and a so-called "hawk" within the Obama administration, was clearly a greater evil to Trump, whose neo-isolationist American First foreign policy indicated a more hostile approach on military adventures around the world.

Whether or not President Trump will actually deliver is to a certain extent irrelevant. We know for certain that Hilary Clinton would have gone to war against the Assad regime shortly after being elected. The electorate knew what Clinton would have done in power, with Trump, it was a roll of the dice.

When the status quo is intolerable, any prospective of change is preferable.

The same logic applies to Corbyn's Labour party... when neo-liberal policies have failed the broad mass of the population, any alternative starts to sound appealing. The Tories should head that warning.

Yes the presidents have limited power. That is the way it was set up to be. Thank the founding fathers for their understanding of human nature. Notice I did not thank god. God has nothing to do with it beyond perhaps the endowment of the intelligence in certain world leaders needed to see the proper solution.
As to Hillary she has little standing in my view. She is a money grubbing power seeker that would sell out the whole country for a million dollars in her bank account.
The search is on for those leaders that will rise up in the next election and lead us forward. (In both parties).
Might I suggest that the next presidential winner should be 60 years old plus or minus a couple of years?
All these plus seventy year old politicians need to give it up and write (by themselves) their memoirs and retire to their plush estates they acquired"By totally legitimate means" while in pubic office at a set government salary.

Bernie is already 76 years old the presidency is no job for and eighty year old.
If Bernie wants to achieve his goals he needs to find a younger like minded leader to pass the torch to.

He can't be any worse than Trump or Clinton would have been!

I don't think, when push comes to shove, he is any better Ken. He was more than happy to jump on board the now completely discredited "Russia stole my election" farce.

I agree and I actually wrote him in on election day but as I knew the state would go for Hillary it was just a protest statement.
Bernie would probably have done a better job then Trump is doing with a republican congress to hold him back from his most socialist ideas and dreams. But that was 2016 and time marches on and by 2020 he will be one bad day away from a stroke , heart attack or dementia.
We need younger leaders still in their prime with all their wits about them.

Maybe the question should be "Will britain get there first?"

The consequences of Amber Rudd’s decision to ignore the courts

Quote:
Because of Boris Johnson’s behaviour there’s one story that hasn’t received the attention it deserves and that is the story of Amber Rudd being held in contempt of court
