Wouldn’t trust one of those, open a window is safer, or having some draughts . Shhhh! Don’t tell K-L. Wink

We have two schools of thought here:-

Woodburner

I want to live in a house which has no control over the level of draught in any weather conditions whether it be blowing a gale or still an a millpond and I will put on extra clothes and burn extra fuel to keep the house at my required temperature. And hang anyone who lives in the house in the future.

Kenneal

I want to live in a house in which I can control the level of ventilation by a combination of air tightness and trickle vents in openable windows so that I can be comfortable in any conditions from a gale to calm as a millpond while wearing a sensible level of clothing and not burning excess fuel.

Compare and discuss.

I'm back on the contractor generator (4KW) today as the rain that came in iced all the trees and one has taken down a line somewhere between me and the substation. The wood furnace carries on as usual and life goes on. It is about +6C at the moment and the ice is falling off the tree limbs tinkle to crash. Road crew came in twice and sanded the town road and I fired up the JD and scraped the private road down to the rut tops to rough it up for the ladies.
I have to second Emordnilap's point. Being cold is one thing cold and wet quite another.

She would agree with you on that

I'm being no more petulant on this than someone who takes issue with a climate change denier. My point of view is the one that is accepted by the vast majority of independent building professionals. It's a bit like global warming really; a few people disagree with the consensus on AGW.

Who are you referring to as “a climate change denier”?

I'm not accusing you of being a climate change denier just being "like" one in your rebuttal of the building science.

“building science” I don’t see that is a good description when the “science” doesn’t seem to be able to take human requirements into consideration. If it does, please explain how it is that so many plastics are used in houses, with minimum ventilation, when it is known the outgassing vapours from plactics is harmful. You may have heard of “sick building syndrome”. Or is that an acceptable disadvantage becase of saving heat?

No. It's just the same exasperation that I feel when dealing with climate change deniers coming through although I do recognise that you are not a climate change denier, just like one!! Smile

I feel that I have fully explained the situation but I'm in the position that my late father used to explain as having "led a horse to water but been unable to get it to drink!"

It could just be the water is not quite as wholesome as you would like to think, but you have the blinkers on, which you would need to transfer to the horse so it cannot then see the wider picture.

Just because we think we are right, does not mean we are not making a mistake.
