Late surge in Brent to over $70.60, partly on weak dollar.

New 3 year high?

Yes, last nights closing price was a new multi-year high, and in early trade today the price has gone up a little more.

Just noticed that it's gone up to $62.34 again. Last I remember it was 50 something.

Brent has been in the sixties for a month or two. WTI (shown on the ps pages) took a while to catch up. Brent jumped a dollar in late trading on Friday, but is still a few dollars below recent peaks. You may be confusing with the price of heating oil, I just spent 52p/litre

Brent rises today to over $70 presumably on middle east tensions.

Unless the price falls back in the next few hours, tonight's closing price will be a new multi year high, though still far below the all time record.

As expected, last nights closing price for Brent was a new multi year high.

Prices rise again today, no doubt on the worsening news from the ME.
If a full scale war breaks out, I expect to see at least $100.

If anyone uses a nuclear weapon, then I would expect to see at least $200.

If anyone uses a nuke I don't think you'll see much at all!

If war breaks out we would probably see financial Armageddon.

War is coming.

The Dollar denominated Yank Empire is dying. That is what this is all about. That is what it has always been about - from the bullshit of the Skripal poisoning to the bombs soon to be raining down from the Yanks in Syria.

Iraq attempted to drop the dollar in oil trading and was destroyed. Libya attempted to drop the dollar in oil trading. It was destroyed. Syria has tried the same and is being destroyed. Russia has built a pipeline to China, one of the biggest consumers of oil in the world, and I have read recently that China is about to insist that Saudi trade oil with them for Yuan instead of dollars.

The Yank ruling class and their chief bitch, the UK ruling class, are determined to force Russia from the world stage. By sanctions if they can but, clearly, by open conflict if they cant. It really does actually seem like these idiots are prepared to contemplate provoking a nuclear exchange. Because, that is what it could easily escalate to. The lunatics running the West after 35 odd years of neo-liberalism really are psychopathic enough and stupid enough to think that a nuclear exchange is survivable.

Either enough of us call this dangerous nonsense out every time we hear another member of the public (that includes our neighbours, our friends and family and anybody else for that matter) regurgitating the kind of mindless propaganda they are currently being fed on a daily basis by our compliant media - or we face the very real prospect of a world war to end all world wars coming down the line.

I am not hopeful.

May is reported to be backing Trump in bombing Syria without getting a parliamentary vote first.

Which means the bombs could start falling tonight.

I think the French are already on board.

I am not sure what the point is , beyond symbolic. At least kicking out diplomats is symbolism which doesn't kill people.

If the US manages to blow up a few Russian planes and kill a few Russian soldiers it will put to rest the assertions that Trump is a Russian patsy that won the election only with Russian help. Only the worst conspiracy theorists will think Trump is clever enough to play the game deep enough for this to be a diversion.

Doesn't that start with a conflict between the USSR and NATO in Iran?

Whoever wrote Threads probably knew about this:
Viable Opposition: Scorched Earth - the Middle East Denial Policy

Under Plan NECKPIECE (aka SMARTWEED), the main objectives of the British were as follows:

1.) deny Russia from accessing refined oil products that would allow them to transport their troops from Russia, through Persia (Iran) and Iraq to Egypt

2.) to prevent the Russians from obtaining machinery for export and use in their own country

3.) to prevent the Russians from obtaining aviation fuel and other products for use in their own country and elsewhere
