Time to arrange another? Maybe in Bury. Or Salford? As long as there's a decent venue doesn't matter where.

Decent venue? Doesn't that rule out Salford?

Mostly yes, but we were discussing a real ale pub somewhere there last time we were out. And Salford is central for us (near trains, etc).
Got a better suggestion?
P.S. Welcome to the board Chris _________________ Set The Fire To The Third Bar

Definitely up for another one soon . . . been a bit hectic here but calming down a bit now.
Bury is good for me obviously, but Salford or Manchester city centre would be equally good!
A PO crimbo drink maybe . . . ? _________________ Andy Hunt

Hi Guys
Just kidding about Salford, I was remiinded of the old gag......
Bloke goes into a newsagent and asks for a Mnachester A-Z
Newsagent - "Standard or luxury version?"
Customer - "What's the difference"
Newsagent - "Luxury version doesn't include Salford"
I'd be interested in coming along to a meeting there or anywhere else within striking distance of Manchester
Regards Chris |

I'd love another meet up soon but can't do anything before the end of the year - except maybe afternoon drinks on New Years Eve? We're over in Manchester for a party on NYE so we'd be in the area.
Other than that I'm not working the following weekends: 5th Jan; 2nd & 9th Feb; 1st, 8th and 15th March.
How did you find out about Peak Oil Chris? _________________ Set The Fire To The Third Bar

Hello Eternal Sunshine and Andy
Can't remember where I first heard about Peak Oil, I'm guessing that it on a link from one of the political websites that I often read (I am politically far-left). It must have been 3-4 years ago. I have a moderately long-standing interest in the oil biz as I used to work for Shell at the Stanlow refinery, Ellesmere Port.
To some extent PO has taken over from raw politics as my regular reading interest on the web, though obviously the two are closely linked. I read The Oil Drum pretty completely just about every day. As it happens I am personally a consumption nightmare, commuting daily to Halifax from Manchester by car. I'm trying to do something about that, but not really making much progress ATM.
As for meeting up, I can't do NYE afternoon, and my schedule isn't set through the coming months - I'm generally pretty available. I say maybe wait for a few weeks and see if we get any other takers.
Cheers, Chris |

Well good to see you on the board Chris.
There aren't that many of us Peak Oilers in the North West Chris so there may not be that many takers! Wedg1e told me in a PM that he would come to another meetup when we arrange one. I think my OH will come too.
Andy - do you think you can persuade Haggis to come this time? _________________ Set The Fire To The Third Bar

Right - we've decided on a time and date for the next meet up, and have a few people who are coming. It is:
7.30pm on Saturday 8 March at the Trackside (real ale pub in a converted station next to a steam railway) in Bury.
If you are interested post here or PM either myself or Andy Hunt. Any questions about the venue ask Andy as it's his suggestion. I believe it's easy enough to get to on the tram from Manchester.
It would be great to see Powerswitch people & anyone else you want to bring. _________________ Set The Fire To The Third Bar

I've edited the title of this post to "Northern" meetup instead of North Western, so our commrades from over the Pennines feel a little more welcome.
What do you say guys? _________________ Set The Fire To The Third Bar
