Looks like The Wirral in Merseyside is making a bid to become a transition town. On Wednesday they're having a showing of "The Power of Community" & "How Totnes in Devon is pioneering the Transition Town movement" followed by a discussion. We live in Lancashire but my OH & I may go along to see how they're going about it.
If anyone else is interested have a look at their web site here:

We went to this meeting on Wed night. It was really inspiring, they've done quite a lot already in West Kirby after only a couple of months. Patrick Cleary who was running the meeting says they were accepted as a transition town on 30 Oct. They have a steering group and are now doing 10 months raising awareness in the area before an event later next year to "launch" the area as a transition town.
It's really heart warming to know there are grass root groups taking the initiative out there instead of waiting for the powers that be to get their act together. _________________ Set The Fire To The Third Bar
