It's indeed the highest fraction of the unstable volume...but this intermediate waste is also produced by hospitals and other medical fields and so on, in larger quantities..But this waste is controlable
Those high level waste are the one that are unstable for a long time (you can discuss if you can call them unstable if they are that stable) and rather toxic. And well we know we can store them for that long time, but well the uncertainties are somewhat greater and therefor it's less easier accepted...therefore we want to destroy those in a nuclear way. |

This is Olympic Dam, the biggest uranium mine. It would never be allowed in Surrey. |

First of all they're not only mining uranium over there, but also gold and copper!
And well gold is just one of the things used as a contact on Photovoltaic cells...A lot of technologies are depending on mined resources you know...
But seriously, do you believe that other mines for let's say iron or any other metal look different? |
