On the mobile, or through it from a PC? Brave man Smile

I recently got stung with a high bill after using my phone for data traffic (though not as badly as this chap, or this one) and have since found that the common opinion on it is "dont!". If you're on the road though, what are your choices, eh?

Either way, you probably want a custom minimal-presentation style which just gives you the basic text and no fancy graphics. More so if browsing directly on a mobile, which I've never tried with powerswitch. There seem to be various ad-ons or mods for phpBB that can do this sort of thing, so if it would be useful to people I can look into it.

I'm on T-Mobile Web n Walk and it's ?12 (less some strange discounts I don't understand, and am not risking querying!) a month on top of my phone package for 3Gb bandwidth. That effectively means it's unlimited use, as there's no way I can use that much, especially as it's too slow for watching video! It actually works very well with my laptop connected to my phone using Bluetooth. I never use the browser on the phone, as I can't get on with it. It's nice going to a built up area with a 3G signal occasionally to get a bit of slow broadband speed! PowerSwitch normally works pretty well, but I do spend more time on it because of the lack of speed.

Just tested now on my work PC (Win XP SP2 with Firefox 2.0.0.11).

Seems a little quicker, no issues.

Will test with my Mac (OS X 10.5.1, Safari 3.something) when I get home.

I've just switched over and on IE7.0.5730.11 (??!) it works fine, and a little faster. Will report from my other computer this evening!

Got it on Linux Fedora 8 with Firefox 2.0.0.10 and when I flipped it over it speeded up significantly. Good job. Very Happy

Right, well a week and no ill results reported, and a good list of browsers covered, so with thanks to the 25 testers, I'm going to switch entirely to the new optimised style.

If you have problems (short of being unable to see much at all) you can switch back to the old style "subSilver" using the setting in your profile...
