Thought I'd be better resuscitating this thread rather than starting a fresh one, as it seems most relevant:

We're looking at retrofitting compost toilets, and I'm looking for the most "socially acceptable" solution so that a) everybody uses it, and b) visitors go away converted. Plus, we may not have the ability to do a "direct drop".

With this all in mind, I've found some "micro-flush" systems which have a conventional ceramic pan, and can cope multiple pans and a remote collection unit - but they're all made in Canada! Does anybody know of any British-made ones?

Timely reminder.... for a progress update!

Am I there yet? Noooooo not quite!

I have now finished the shed in the patio where the "throne" is to be situated (did I mention the throne - I found it a while ago, its an old stage prop throne that now has a loo seat fitted... Laughing ).

However it hasn't been christened yet!

My main worry is the time factor. I know I just need to get in the habit of moving buckets etc.... but right now, with full time work......

IT WILL HAPPEN EVENTUALLY!

Anyone else made progress? SunnyJim?

andrew-l, did you look at the humanure site? The links are on the first page.

Update: we discovered a hedgehog making its winter home in one of the bales surrounding our heap, so we've had to build another one. We need all the hedgehogs we can get so I'm going to make sure this one is not disturbed and is good and warm. They are wonderful, beautiful creatures.

The good thing is, each time we build a new humanure compost heap, we improve on the last one!

NO! No! No detailed shots please! It's more a distance shot of haybales and scenery with nothing distinctive or recognisable on view... Rolling Eyes
