Ryanair, Europe's biggest discount airline, said profit fell 85 percent, missing analysts' estimates, and may post its first full-year loss since going public in 1997 because of increased fuel expenses. The carrier, struggling with record oil prices and a slowdown in consumer spending, expects an annual result of between breakeven and a loss of 60 million euros. Ryanair, which says its average fare is 42 euros, predicted ticket prices could fall as much as 5 percent in the year. Ryanair had previously said it would probably break even this fiscal year. India’s IT hub and world’s back office is headed towards a power crisis. The Karnataka Government has announced that it will cut down the city’s power supply by 20 per cent, which roughly translates into over four hours of unscheduled power cuts. However, that’s not all. In case the rain situation does not improve, Bangalore could face power cuts lasting over six hours...Industries continue to be bulk users of diesel as they are heavily dependent on diesel-run generators. The link between poverty and obesity may be counterintuitive, but it is well documented. Hunger and obesity are not at opposite ends of the continuum from poverty to wealth; rather, they are opposite sides of the same coin of malnutrition. As food prices continue to inflate, so will waistlines. And increasing rates of diabetes, heart disease, stroke and a host of other chronic disease will likely follow. Ministers are in talks with supermarkets about emergency food reserves in case fuel protests lead to shortages at shops. The government wants to ensure retailers and suppliers can continue to sell basics such as meat, bread and milk if hauliers bring the country to a halt. They have asked supermarkets to make contingency plans “in case the infrastructure of the country breaks down”. Among those who have taken part are farmers, dairies, bakeries and supermarkets.
